LUMIREN Energy Monitoring System (LEMS)
The efficient use of energy is becoming crucial for most organizations not only to reduce wastage and consumption but more importantly, to save costs and improve competitiveness. Besides helping the environment, energy efficiency is also vital to most industries because the rising costs of electricity is cutting into their margins resulting in lower earnings.
LUMIREN Energy Monitoring System (LEMS) can be easily deployed, simple to install, and requires very low maintenance. We have harnessed the use of a monitoring system as solution to help large electrical consumers monitor their energy usage patterns accurately to achieve higher efficiency. Together with the iSCADA technology platform, the package is complete to further enhance data monitoring, improve operating output and enable proactive solutions for a reduction in energy bills.

LUMIREN Intelligent Load Saver (ILS)
LUMIREN ILS (INTELLIGENT LOAD SAVER) Working Principle:
The central air-conditioning system mainly consists of refrigeration compressor group, cooling (heat) medium circulating system, cooling water circulation system, condenser water circulating system & cooling tower fan and air handling units. However, all the central air-conditioning systems currently have a same major weakness that is it is hard to control their output temperature according to seasons, day and night, and the occupancy driven cooling demand. Conventional volumetric control using valves is wasting significant amount of energy since its motor is always working at full speed. Statistics show that typically air conditioning system consumes around 60% of the total energy used in a building.
Central air-conditioning system working principle: The central air-conditioning system can be classified as constant torque load and square torque load by the load type.
Constant torque load: the screw- or centrifugal refrigeration compressor is of the constant torque load, which always need limit the min. axis output torque, and the relationship between its speed and power approaches linearity.
Square torque load: such as cooling (heat) medium circulating water system, cooling water circulating system, cooling tower fan and air handling units, which have no particular requirements to the axis torque, and the power consumed is proportional to the cube of the speed.
As the refrigeration compressor inside the central air-conditioning system has already had automatic regulation function, the energy saving re-engineering should focus on the pumps and fans. From the theory of fluid mechanics, the output flow quantity (Q) of the centrifugal pump or fan is proportional to its speed (N); the output pressure (P) is proportional to the square of the speed (N); while the output power (HP) is proportional to the cube of the speed (N), as shown below:
Consider the following example:
A 50 hp fan needs to supply air 10 hrs/day for 250 days, The cost of running the fan at full speed would be:
50 hp x 0.746 kW/hp x 2500 hrs x $0.08/kWhr = $7,460.00
Assuming the fan does not have to run at full speed all the time:
25% of time at 100%; 50% of time at 80%; 25% of time at 60%
The cost of running the fan with LUMIREN ILS would be:
50 hp x (1.00)3 x 0.746 x 625 x $0.08 = $1,865.00
50 hp x (0.80)3 x 0.746 x 1250 x $0.08 = $1,909.76
50 hp x (0.60)3 x 0.746 x 625 x $0.08 = $402.84
Total = $4,177.60
Potential Annual Savings: $7460.00 – $4177.60 = $3,282.40
It is easy to draw a conclusion that we can adjust the output power of the pump and fan through controlling their speed. But to correctly judge whether the central air-conditioning system has energy saving potential is the prerequisite of re-engineering due to particularity of the central air-conditioning system.
